Interested in Breastfeeding? You've come
to the right place!
Breastfeeding is so much more than providing nutrition.
It's a way to bond with your baby, to show your baby just
how much you love him or her.
I believe that breastfeeding is the best. Not because it's
what I've been "told" by the AAP or WHO or UNICEF,
but because it is what makes the most sense to me. Human milk
for human babies - makes perfect sense, doesn't it? Nature
has proven itself over and over. Kittens drink their mothers'
milk. Puppies drink their mothers' milk. Kangaroos drink their
mothers' milk. So why should human babies drink cow milk or
vegetable (soy) milk? More and more research studies are proving
that there are many risks associated with using formula (see
link at left. Breastfeeding is nature's way of protecting
our children, protecting ourselves and giving us everything
we need to provide for our children.
What is the AAP's, WHO's, UNICEF's (etc.)
stand on Breastfeeding?
- The AAP (American Association of Pediatrics) recommends
exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months
of life and encourages continued breastfeeding for the next
six months, or longer, as long as it is mutually desired
by mother and child. For further information on the AAP's
stand on breastfeeding, click
here.
- The WHO (World Health Organization) explains that the
optimal duration for exclusive breastfeeding is the
first six months of life and encouranges continued breastfeeding
for the next two years or longer. For further information
on the WHO with regards to breastfeeding, click
here.
- UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) focuses on integrated
programs for early child development. UNICEF also recommends
exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months
of life. UNICEF also helped develop the Baby
Friendly Hospital Initiative. For further information
