Are you on doctor ordered bed rest but
still want to take a breastfeeding class?
Just because you're not allowed to leave the house, it doesn't
mean you should have to forego taking a breastfeeding class.
In fact, in my opinion, it is even more important for a mom
on bed rest to take a class on breastfeeding! The most common
reason a woman is put on bed rest is to stop pre-term labor.
This generally means that there is a high chance that a mom
on bed rest will deliver prematurely. Premature babies have
more issues with breastfeeding - but they also need that mother's
milk even more! Breast milk is not only different for every
person, but it is also different at various times. Premature
babies need more proteins to grow stronger - breast milk that
comes from a mother who has given birth prematurely is higher
in protein than the milk that comes from a mother who has
given birth at term. Nature knows what is best!
Even if you are able, thanks to bed rest, to deliver at term,
that doesn't mean that breastfeeding is any less important
or beneficial. Taking a breastfeeding class prenatally will
prepare you for what is to come. Knowledge is power, and my
job as a Certified Lactation Educator is to empower women
to have successful breastfeeding relationships. I take this
job very seriously.
If you are on bed rest, either at home or in the hospital,
I will come to you with a specialized - and often personalized
- breastfeeding class; JUST FOR YOU. All you need to provide
is a TV, DVD player and a VCR. If you don't have a DVD player
or a VCR, I can work around that. This specialized class will
incorporate most of the Breastfeeding 101 class, but will
delve deeper into information regarding breastfeeding the
special needs child and how/when to supplement. This class
can be scheduled at your convenience. Contact
me for further information.
